Why so many rules? It is a public forum!
The Hardware.Info forum is public, i.e. accessible to anyone. The forum should therefore offer and remain a pleasant and useful place to visit. Opinions may vary and these rules therefore determine the owners' views on what is and what is not allowed. The owners are also responsible for managing a public forum: they may be held accountable for forum discussions (such as illegal software or movies). Part of the rules are therefore dictated by (Dutch) law.
Language and writing style
The language used on this forum is English. Messages must be easily legible and understandable. Please use proper spelling, grammar and punctuation and refrain from using slang.
Double posting and crossposting
Neither double posting or crossposting is allowed. Double posting is when you ask an (almost) identical question in a subforum; crossposting is posting an (almost) identical question in several subforums. All postings but one will be removed.
Flamewars, insults, racist and discriminating remarks, offensive pictures, etc.
Obviously, none of the above are allowed on this forum.
Illegal software, warez, appz, cracks, hacks, serials and related matters
| Above everything else, we ask that you respect applicable copyright laws in your country.
On Hardware.Info only legal software may be discussed. When we suspect a member has not nor cannot have obtained software legally, the topic will be closed. If software cannot be acquired through regular channels (sale, public download) we will assume the software is illegal and we will act accordingly. You may not ask questions concerning illegal software and related matters on Hardware.Info. This includes gamehacks that modify the original software. This forum may not be used to exchange information on these matters either. Questions about making backups of DVDs, audio CDs and legally purchased software are only allowed if copy protection does not have to be compromised. Moderators have the final say in case of doubt. |
Downloading mp3s, divx, etc.
Discussions about uploading, sharing and downloading illegal music or movies are not allowed. In principle discussions about P2P software are allowed, unless the purpose of the discussion is to share illegal content.
Hardware news
The forum is not intended to post news items (information on new hardware developments): our news sections fulfil every need. Please contact a news editor through a Private Message (PM), instant messenger (ICQ, MSN, etc.) or email. The news editors' names can be found in About Hardware.Info.
"Funny links", advertisements, homepages and spam
You may not post funny or interesting links to other sites on this forum. Advertising for your own business or homepage is not allowed in any Hardware.Info subforum as this is considered spam, which is prohibited on the entire site. Please contact the administrators if you wish to advertise on this forum; we offer competitive rates.
What is the difference between rules and guidelines?
Rules are mandatory: every visitor to Hardware.Info agrees to the rules when registering an account. Violation of these rules will reflect on the use of the account concerned. Guidelines are a combination of netiquette, recommendations and tips to ensure a useful and pleasant visit to our forum. Anything not listed as a rule is a guideline. This naturally does not mean guidelines can be safely ignored.
What are the consequences of violating the rules?
| This depends on the violation. A moderator (see elsewhere) will contact a member who violates our rules. The member's account will be terminated or temporarily suspended if he/she persists in violating rules. An IP ban may be imposed in case of extreme misconduct, preventing the offender from visiting the forum altogether. Depending on the violation Hardware.Info may contact the offender's provider.
Please note that registering a new account during a temporary suspension will result in the suspension being extended! |
I disagree with a moderator's decision!
You should contact the moderator or another crewmember through a Private Message, email or IM. What you should not do is post comments intended for one person only (whether moderator or another member) in a subforum.
