|
A media center PC serves as a music and film jukebox, as a video recording device, digital photo album and so on and so forth. The media center is the centerpiece of the digital living room. This puts specific demands on this type of computer, ranging from special connectors to a design that integrates well with other A/V components. |

All-round PC - November 2009 |
12 components |
|
Using the internet, gaming, office and business applications, simpel video and photo editing: with a good all-round PC all of that should be possible at a reasonable performance level.
Important to this type of system is a good balance between components, meaning no single part is especially fast, but rather all are appropriately matched. For example, while many off the shelf systems feature a very fast CPU and skimp on other parts, we prefer to opt for a somewhat slower CPU but insure the graphics and sound systems are above the level you would find on many boxed PC's. Ultimately this will ensure that while the benchmark scores might be lower than you expect, your actual experience using the computer will be a lot smoother and more pleasant. |

Game PC - November 2009 |
16 components |
|
When you mainly use a PC to play games, there are specific items in the configuration to pay attention to. Of course the graphics card is important, but many gamers overclock their PC in order to raise performance even further. That makes it vital to choose components that enable such a venture, even if there is a (relatively small) premium to pay.
Besides that of course the right accessories are important. Our Game PC Advice strives to deliver a PC that can handle every aspect of any modern game title with ease. That means: high resolution graphics with excellent image quality, surround sound and a solid frame rate. Of course there is a steep price tag, but we do try to keep our chosen parts from becoming extravagant. |

HD Video editing PC - October 2009 |
13 components |
|
HD digital video editing requires a hefty amount of processing power, and our video editing PC delivers that in spades. However storage and screen real estate are nearly as important, and of course far from neglected in the configuration. Often overlooked in off the shelf PC's is the power supply - a video editing PC will be running longer and more frequently at full load, which stresses the PSU quite a bit. We select models that will be working fine even some years down the road, ensuring stable operation for the rig's entire lifetime. |

The components have been selected to offer the best price/performance ratio for playing games.
