Packard Bell acquired by Lenovo?

A very persistent rumour today in the Hardware.Info offices suggests Packard Bell has been acquired by Lenovo. The well known manufacturer of computer and related consumer products was until last year part of NEC Computers. This Japanese company sold Packard Bell last year to John Hui, a businessman who's been successful in the United States with the e-Machines brand.

Rumours have abounded for a while now that the for sale sign was once again staked out in Packard Bell's front yard. Especially Acer was reputedly interested to enlarge its marketshare. By now another deal seems to have been made: Lenovo would be the lucky new owner. This Chinese brand that acquired the desktop and notebook departments from IBM some time ago, would obtain a significant wedge of European marketshare this way, where until now it hasn´t been very successful.

Although rumour has it that the deal is done and sealed, the Dutch Packard Bell offices can´t confirm the story. However, apparently the folks there are rarely first to know news like this...
