Fudzilla has acquired information on Intel's upcoming X25-X series of SSD's. This X25-X model will be positioned in the current X25 line-up. THe 2,5" Intel SSD uses 34nm MLC NAND flashmemory in combination with an unknown controller. Though the reading speed of 170 MB/s is quite reasonable, the 35 MB/s writing speed makes it likely that a cheaper controller has been used in this series. The more expensive X25-M Postville SSD's are also using 34nm MLC NAND flashchips and reach speeds of 170 MB/s and 70 MB/s for respectively reading- and writing operations. These drives use a different controller.

The X25-X series is to feature entry-level drives and will initially only be available in a 40 GB capacity. The Intel SSD's will be released later this year at an expected pricetag of just over €100.

The X25-X is to become cheaper than Intel's current X25 series of SSD's.
