Sitecom presents the MD-253 Home Storage Center, a NAS-device positioned in the Smart Living series. The device allows files to be stored on a central location in the network and shared among the users. During the development, Sitecom has tried to combine maximum security with simple installation.
The MD-253 is equipped with two drive bays, allowing two 3.5" hard disks to be installed without toollessly. The second hard disk can be used as additional storage or a mirrored copy of the first disk. Users are able to create both public and personal accounts that can be secured with a username and password to protect private files. The MD-253 automatically creates a copy of files on the attached systems. Data from a USB-flashdrive can also be copied to the MD-253 at the push of a button. The NAS has an integrated BitTorrent-client, iTunes-server and FTP-server.
The device is DLNA-certified, which means it automatically connects with the remaining UPNP AV-equipped devices in the network, including notebooks, desktops or Media Players. The MD-253 is equipped with a temperature-controlled fan. The hard disks are automatically disabled when idle. Two versions of the MD-253 will be released, one with and one without a 1 TB hard disk. The pricetag for the NAS without a hard disk is specified at 180 euro.
