Following nVidia, manufacturer AMD has introduced the support for OpenCL. The fourth beta version of the Stream SDK 2.0 package contains a complete developing environments for GPGPU applications.

ATI's Stream Technology makes it possible to develop applications capable of using the GPU's computing power. In comparison: a Core i7 965 has a computing power of approximately 70 Gigaflops (double precision); an AMD FireStream 9270 card reaches up to 240 Gigaflops (double precision). The computing power of graphics cards is to significantly increase in the future. The fourth beta version of the Stream SDK (dev-environment) brings complete support for OpenCL 1.0. As the name suggests, OpenCL is an open standard: applications developed in this language are compatible with all OpenCL-supporting graphics cards.

Both nVidia and AMD support OpenCL technology in their drivers.
