AMP has announced the external Aviator 312 series of SSD's. The new drives will use the USB 3.0 interface. Thanks to this improved interface, claimed reading- and writing speeds of respectively 240 MB/s and 160 MB/s are reached. The SSD's will be available in capacities of 16 GB, 32 GB and 64 GB, using MLC NAND Flash memory chips. The drives feature dimensions of 70 x 54 x 5 mm and are protected by a metal casing.

All Aviator 312 SSD's with USB 3.0 connector are backwards-compatible with the USB 2.0 and 1.1 standards. These last two however will not be able to fully benefit of the Aviator SSD's performance, which means its best to use the devices in combination with its native USB 3.0 connector.

The Aviator 312 is to be launched later this quarter, featuring a pricetag of $90 for the smallest 16 GB model, and $210 for the 64 GB topmodel.
