A few weeks have passed since nVidia announced its first 40nm graphics cards. Initially, those new cards were to be released for notebooks, but not long after, two desktop models also surfaced. Earlier this month, CPU-Z screenshots of the new GeForce G210 and GT220 models were released and images of both cards are available now as well.
The 40nm GeForce G210 and GT220 cards are meant for the entry-segment of the market, which means that a low price is most important for these models. Because of this, it's not remarkable that nVidia releases both cards in low-profile size. Despite this smaller size, nVidia has placed all the conventional connectors such as VGA, DVI and DisplayPort on the cards. The GPU's core is cooled down by a small single-slot heatsink with fan. Given the dimensions and specifications of these reference coolers, it's not unlikely that some of nVidia's partners will decide to introduce passively cooled versions of the card as well.
The G210 is the cheapest model, sporting 16 shader units, a 64-bits memory interface and 512 MB of DDR2 memory. The GT220 is a bit more powerful, featuring 48 shader units, a 128-bits memory interface and 1 GB of GDDR3 graphics memory. These two 40nm cards will predominantly be used in pre-built systems by large OEM manufacturers. They are expected to be released in the third quarter, later this year.
