The license terms of the most recent Windows 7 RC show that Microsoft also plans to offer its new operating system as "Family Pack". This would mean that Windows 7 is allowed to be installed on up to three computers, comparable to the retail version of Office 2007 Home & Student. The mention in the license terms only includes the Home Premium retail version, likely due to the fact that this version will be used most by consumers.

Though Microsoft has not yet confirmed the Family Pack, it appears the company is following competitor Apple. Apple sells Mac OS X as Family Pack for 199 dollar. The pack allows users to install the OS on up to five Mac-computers. These terms are only valid for home-usage. Microsoft also plans to have the retail version of Windows 7 cost as much as the upgrade-edition for the remainder of this year.
