Earlier this week, ASUS has announced a new router. The key marketing strategy of this router is that it is to combine performance with simplicity and security. The RT-N16 features Draft 802.11n with three antennas, which -theoretically- allows it to reach speeds of up to 300 Mbps.
According to ASUS, the device contains a powerful CPU and 128 MB of DDR2-memory, which should prevent noticeable latency, even under high load. Up to 300.000 sessions are supported for P2P file-sharing. It's also possible to divide the bandwidth to ensure stability in VoiP applications, as well as the audio/video streaming of larger files.
The router has four Gigabit Ethernet ports and a single WAN-connector. There are two USB 2.0 ports available which allows USB storage devices and printers to be shared over the network. The bundled EZ All-In-One Printer software should make it possible to have connected printers and scanners used by multiple persons simultaneously.

Apart from the EZ Printer software, ASUS bundles an additional number of programs with the router. AiDisk for instance is used for easy file sharing between different network computers. Other programs include EZQoS, Quick Internet Setup, Network Map, Dr. Surf and EZ MFP, all of which are used to configure and simplify network applications.
The network is secured by 64/128-bit WEP, WPA/WPA2-PSK or -Enterprise, or Radius with 802.1x. There's also support for WPS, a standard that is to simplify the security configuration.
As of yet, there's no information available regarding the ASUS RT-N16's pricing and availability.
