ASUS Z8NA-D6C: dual LGA1366 in ATX-size
This week, ASUS introduces a new model in its Z8-series of server motherboards. The board, branded Z8NA-D6C will be one of the entry models in the Z8 line-up and like its more expensive brothers, features two LGA1366 sockets with room for two Xeon X5500, E5500 or L5500 processors. Because ASUS has been able to keep the size modest with a standard ATX form factor, it can be mounted in a simple desktop chassis as well. The fact that the motherboard features both an ATX- and SSI-power connector, as well as support for registered (RDIMM) and unregistered (UDIMM), should make the board suited for all basic needs.

The Z8NA-DC6 is based on Intel's 5500 chipset and an ICH10R southbridge. Six DDR3-memory slots support up to 48 GB of RDIMM, or 24 GB UDIMM, with clock frequencies of 800, 1066 or 1333 MHz. There's room for five expansion cards; one PCI, one PCI-e 2.0 x16 slot, two PCI-e 2.0 x8 slots and a single MIO slot for a soundcard. Also present are six SATA 3.0 Gbit/s connectors with RAID0, 1, 5 and 10 functionality, two onboard Gigabit networkcontrolls, a simple Aspeed AST2050 graphics chip with 8 MB of memory and an incredible eight fan connectors. The amount of USB-connectors (two external, two internal) seems a bit lacking.

ASUS' Z8NA-D6C is available at a price of about US $260.
