Japanese manufacturer Shinoda Plasma has demonstrated a 145-inch Plasma screen prototype earlier this week. The screen is basded on the PTA (Plasma Tube Array) technology, which uses glass tubes of 1 mm in depth.

PTA tubes allow the screen to be curved

The screen consists of six panels, each sized 1 x 1 meters in a 2 by 3 matrix. The resolution of the screen is only 960 x 720 pixels; an advantage being that the whole weighs 7,2 kilograms. To compare: an 108-inch LCD screen can be up to 28 times as heavy. The power consumption of the plasmascreen has also been revealed: 800 Watt on average use, with peaks of up to 1200 Watt.

Shinoda Plasma already demonstrated a 43-inch prototype based on the PTA technology in 2007. A year later, the company presented a 125-inch model and even after the introduction of this 145-inch prototype, Shinoda is willing to invest in the development of the technology.
