Shortly after the launch of AMD's Radeon HD4770, partner XFX already introduces a 1 GB version of the card. The HD4770 is based on the new 40nm RV740 chip and the reference model sports 512 MB of GDDR5 memory. The graphics card comes in an X-shaped box that is a characteristic of XFX's more expensive GPUs. While this packaging is mostly used for overclocked versions, the new HD4770 1 GB features the reference clock frequencies of 750 MHz for the core and 3200 MHz (effectively) for the GDDR5 memory. By using the smaller 40nm transistors, AMD has been able to place 640 stream processors in the chip, resulting in the performance nearing the Radeon HD4850.
When the new double-memory version of the HD4770 will be released is still unknown, as is the recommended price. The card comes with XFX's 5-star warranty.
