OCZ has announced mini PCI-Express SSD's which will allow users to increase the storage capacity of netbooks and other mobile devices. This type of SSD is used in multiple models of ASUS' Eee PC, the standard capacity being 8 GB. OCZ's mini PCI-Express SSD is able to double or quadruple that number to respectively 16 or 32 GB.
Apart from the two different capacities, the SSD will become available in both a PATA and a SATA version, allowing older netbooks to benefit from the upgradability as well. The biggest difference between the two is the maximum reading- and writingspeed: the PATA drive reaches speeds of 45 and 35 Mbyte/s, whereas the SATA version is capable of reaching speeds of 110 and 51 MByte/s.
OCZ's mini PCI-Express SSD's are compatible with all recent versions of Windows, including Windows 7. Mac OS X 10 and newer is also supported. The SSD's come with a two-year warranty plan. Prices have not yet been mentioned.
