Shortly after the introduction of the Phenom II X4 Black Edition 955, AMD has launched a new version of its OverDrive software. This tool is meant to monitor AMD processors and chipsets, as well as allow tweaking and overclocking of individual components. The new version 3 also supports Windows 7.
This version of OverDrive also introduces the AMD Black Edition Memory Profiles, which are best compared to nVidia's EPP and Intel's XMP memory profiles. RAM modules with such profiles contain pre-programmed combinations of latencies and clock frequencies.

For processors, AMD Smart Profiles has been added. This allows users to increase the clock frequencies of individual cores, thus allowing for improved performance in applications that are only able to use one or two cores. The program also features a multi-threaded stress test to test the CPU's stability.
