Early March, reports surfaced on a new AMD Phenom II X4 955 processor with a 3.2 GHz clock frequency. It has since become known that the Phenom II X4 955 will be a Black Edition processor, which means that the chip will feature an unlocked multiplier. The new Phenom was expected to release in April. Fudzilla reports that this will in fact be the case and that the CPU will be available starting April 23. This makes the upcoming Phenom II X4 955 AMD's fastest processor.
The Phenom II X4 955 will feature an AM3 socket and support for both DDR2 and DDR3 memory. Because the socket AM3 processor uses the same Hypertransport bus as its AM2+ predecessors, the chip can also be used on all AM2+ chipsets by both AMD and nVidia. Many motherboard manufacturers have already prepared their AM2+ motherboards for the AM3 processors through a BIOS update. Like the other processors in the series, the new X4 955 will bear a 125 Watt TDP.
