A few days ago, Intel released an overview of its upcoming desktop processors, of which the topmodel will be the Core i7 975 Extreme Edition, sporting a clock frequency of 3.33 GHz. This processor will be replacing the company's current flagship; the i7 965 Extreme Edition.
If we are to believe the listings of this Spanish and this Irish webshop, the Core i7 975 will be released mid-April. The recommended price of this new processor will float around the € 1000 mark, equal to its predecessors. The processor is expected to hit shelves April 14th.
Around the 20th of April, competitor AMD will be introducting a number of new Phenom II processors. Though the performance trophy remains in Intel's hands, AMD processors are a feisty competitor to Intel's Core i7 series. The AMD chips feature a lower pricetag and a better price/performance ratio.
