As reported by VR-Zone, nVidia will introduce the MCP82 XE chipset later this month. This chipset is a revised version of the MPC72 XE with added support for recent AMD AM3 processors with either DDR2 or DDR3 memory.

The official name of the chipset will be nForce 980a SLI and it will be compatible with PCIe 2.0, HT 3.0, tri/quad SLI, as well as Hybrid SLI with the IGP. As can be seen above, the MCP82 XE has twelve USB 2.0 and six SATA 3 Gb/s connectors. Also present are Gigabit Ethernet and HD audio. The nForce 980a SLI features a 20 W TDP in the mGPU mode, 22 W in Hybrid SLI mode and 9 W idle.
