HKEPC reports that Intel will be adding two new processors to its Atom Z5xx series in the coming month. It's expected that these chips will be used in mobile phones and ultra-portables.
The first new Atom will bear the serial number Z550 and will follow up the Z540 as flagship, featuring a 2 GHz clock frequency, compared to the Z540's 1.86GHz. Like the Z540, the Z550 will have a 533MHz FSB, 512 kB of L2 cache and a 2.4 Watt TDP. The average power consumption is specified at 0.22 Watt.Combined with the US15W chipst, the Atom Z550 can be used in a system with up to 2GB of memory. Graphics are provided by an integrated Intel GMA500 core, which even supports 720p HD video and H.264 decoding, as well as MPEG 2, MPEG 4, VC1 and WMV9. The average power consumption and the TDP of the chipset are respectively claimed to be 0.8 and 2.3 Watt.
The second addition to the series would be the Z515, which is rumored to feature Intel's Burst Performance Technology (BPT). This means that the processor will have a variable clock frequency, dependant on the load. HKEPC also reports that the CPU's frequency is able to vary between 800 MHz and 1.33 GHz. The processor has a 400 MHz FSB and 512 kB of L2 cache. At full speed, the Z515 has a 1.4 Watt TDP; compared to one of 0.65 Watt when clocked at 800 MHz.
HKEPC claims that apart from the aforementioned US15W chipset, the Atom Z515 can also be used in combination with the UL11L, which supports up to 512 MB of memory. Graphics are again provided by Intel's GMA500 controller, which features only half the frequency (100 MHz) in this chipset. This makes the maximum supported video resolution 540p, while the average power consumption and TDP decrease to respectively 0.7 and 1.6 Watt.
