Recent announcements showed that nVidia is planning ot release a GeForce GTX 275 graphics card to compete with AMD's new RV790 chip. This RV790 chip is to exceed the existing RV770 and is likely to be marketed as HD4890. The exact layout and performance of the RV790 is still unknown, since there have been no clear reports on it yet.
Some more details are available on nVidia's card, according to Fudzilla, the GTX 275 will bear the same 3D-chip as the high-end GTX 295. This means that the card will use 55nm GT200b chip with 240 shader units and a 448-bits memory interface. This interface can be linked to 896 or 1792 MB of GDDR3 memory.
This means that the GTX 275 is equal to half a GTX 295, which makes it likely that the performance will be between the GTX 260 with 216 shaders and the GTX 280/285 with 240 shader units. The new nVidia card will be released in early April, bearing a recommended price of $249. Whether the new card will completely replace the GTX 260 is still unclear.
