Earlier roadmaps show that AMD will start its production of 32nm processors in 2011. In a recent interview with Informationweek, Dick Meyer, AMD's big boss, mentioned that these processors will be introduced earlier, likely the fourth quarter of 2010. This means AMD is closing in on Intel, who'll start mass production of its 32 nm 'Westmere' chip in the last quarter of this year. A smaller production process makes the processors consume less energy and thus more efficient.
Because of this decision, AMD's planned processors, such as the multicore 'Orochi' which will feature six to eight cores, will be available earlier. The two other 32 nm processors that are currently planned are the quadcore 'Liano' which will be used in both desktops and notebooks, and the efficient dualcore 'Ontario', which will predominantly find its way in netbooks and portable devices.
