About two weeks ago, ASUS introduced a new microATX motherboard, featuring Intel's X58 chipset. Images of the board -branded Rampage II Gene- have now appeared on the net. The photos also show the bundled accessories and packaging.
Despite its compact size, the Rampage II Gene has six DDR3 memory slots and two full-capacity PCI-e 2.0 x16 graphics card slots for either SLI or Crossfire. The board uses the ICH10R chip and is able to control up to seven internal SATA 3 Gbps devices. The I/O panel features Gigabit LAN, eSATA, 7.1 audio and a clear-CMOS button.
The Rampage II Gene is packaged in a small red box, emphasizing the dimensions of the board even more. Also enclosed is the 3DMark software and a small display to read BIOS diagnostics.
