A few days after the launch of a Core i7 barebone, Shuttle has introduced a model for AMD enthusiasts. Through a BIOS update, the company's existing socket AM2+ SN78SH7 barebone, has been made compatible with the latest 45nm Phenom II processors. This means that the barebone is now able to handle the fast Phenom II 920 and 940 quadcores CPUs. Shuttle hasn't disclosed any information concerning socket AM3 processor compatibility, but in theory these should be supported as well.
The Phenom II compatible barebone has a black aluminum chassis and room for one 5.25" and two 3.5" bays. The integrated 300 Watt power supply leaves room to install a decent graphics card. On the rear of the SN78SH7 there are USB ports, 7.1 audio connectors (analog and digital), Gigabit LAN, VGA, HDMI and Firewire ports present.
The motherboard of the SN78SH7 is based on nVidia's GeForce 8200 chipset and features two memory slots, as well as a PCI-Express 2.0 x16 slot. The integrated graphics chip on the 8200 chipset supports features such as DirectX10, Purevideo HD and Hybrid Power, which makes the barebone suitable for the latest types of multimedia usage.
The barebone has already been released earlier and costs approximately 295 euro.
