MSI readies more motherboards for AM3

MSI has ordered its BIOS programmers to make numerous AM2+ motherboard compatible with the latest 45nm AMD socket AM3 processors. This new socket is to become the standard for the entire 45nm generation of AMD processors and will be used by both the Phenom II as the new Athlon series. 

Because AM3 processors use the same Hypertransport bus as the AM2+ models, they are compatible with almost every AM2+ chipset by both AMD and nVidia. This also means that the list does not only include 780G, 790FX/GX and 740 based motherboards, but also several boards with an nForce chipset, including the 780a, 750a and the GeForce 8200. 

The K9N2 Diamond with nForce chipset also supports AM3

AMD's new generation of 45nm chips provide better performance and enhanced overclocking potential, whilst retaining a lower power consumption than the old 65nm Phenom. The diagram below shows the full list of AM3-ready motherboards.
