Palit has announced a new version of the GTX 260, featuring an alternative cooler and the revised 55nm GT200b core. The new card has 216 shaders, a 448-bits interface, 896MB of GDDR3 memory and comes with increased clock frequencies.
The core is clocked at 625 MHz and the GDDR3 memory at 2200 MHz. The reference model of this card features respective frequencies of 576 and 1998 MHz. The increased speeds are made possible by the more efficient 55nm GT200b chip and fast 0,8 ns GDDR3 chips which can reach a theoretical speed of 2500 MHz. Palit claims this edition of the GeForce GTX 260 is up to 9% faster than a reference model with 216 shaders.
The cooling of the GTX 260 Sonic is quite similar to the one we've seen earlier on the HD4870 X2. This card also uses two fans, but has shrunk down the cooling block from triple-slot to a more conventional dual-slot size.
The GTX 260 supports DirectX 10.0, nVidia PhysX and CUDA. Prices are still unknown
