About two months ago, reports were made on three new Core 2 Quad Intel processors with a lower power consumption (TDP), as well as several models in the Core 2 Duo and Pentium Dual-Core series. It's not a surprise that these processors will be presented on the same date as Intel's planned price cuts, which is the 18th of January.
In total, five new processors will be added to the existing line-up. The new Core 2 Quads, Q8200s, Q9400s and Q9550s, will now feature a TDP of 65 Watt, which is exactly 30 Watts less than the current versions of these processors, which lack the 's' in their name. The other new CPUs are the Core 2 Duo E7500 and Pentium Dual-Core E5400, both slightly faster than their predecessors. The overview below shows the most important specifications of these new processors:
| Model | Clock frequency |
FSB | Cache | Socket | TDP | Price |
| Core 2 Quad Q9550s | 2,83 GHz | 1333 MHz | 12 MB | LGA775 | 65 W | $369 |
| Core 2 Quad Q9400s | 2,66 GHz | 1333 MHz | 6 MB | LGA775 | 65 W | $320 |
| Core 2 Quad Q8200s | 2,33 GHz | 1333 MHz | 4 MB | LGA775 | 65 W | $245 |
| Core 2 Duo E7500 | 2,93 GHz | 1066 MHz | 3 MB | LGA775 | 65 W | $133 |
| Pentium Dual-Core E5400 | 2,70 GHz | 1066 MHz | 2 MB | LGA775 | 65 W | $84 |
