nVidia's revision of the 65nm GT200 chip and the die-shrink to 55nm made the chip more efficient and smaller than it its predecessor. The company has use the new chip to develop a new dual-GT200 graphics card, the GeForce GTX 295, which has been announced recently.

The card has a sandwich design, meaning that it consists of two seperate PCB's, each equipped with a 55nm GT200 GPU. A heatsink is placed in the middle to keep the cards cooled down. It's possible to run two GeForce GTX 295 cards in a Quad SLI configuration. It's also possible to configure a single card so that one of the cores does the graphics, while the other core runs the physics (PhysX) calculations.

It's still unclear how the GeForce GTX 295 performs compared to ATI's dual-RV770 Radeon HD 4870X2 card. Benchmark results will be released shortly.

The card will be officially launched on the 8th of January, its price is still unknown.
