The first notebook based on AMD's Athlon 2650e processor has been released. The eMachines eMD620-5133, as it is called, is to be an alternative for the Intel Atom based systems that are serving the energy efficient market of laptops and netbooks.
The Athlon 2650e is a single core processor with a 1.6 GHz clock frequency, 800 MHz busspeed and a TDP of a mere 15 Watt. Though the latter is a bit higher than the Atom competitor, the efficient RS690MC-chipset compensates this difference. The chipset also features an integrated graphics card, ATI's Radeon X1250, which powers the 14.1 inch screen. The notebook also has 2 GB of DDR2-800 memory, a 160 GB 5400rpm harddisk, 802.11 b/g wireless networkcontroller and a pre-installed Windows Vista Home Basic.
The AMD Athlon 2650 powered eMD620-5133 costs US $449, making it slightly more expensive than the more luxurious 10-inch netbooks.
