OCZ introduces a new series of SSDs, branded Vertex. The solid-state-drive will be available in 30, 60, 120 and 250GB versions and consists of MLC memory chips. The Vertex line-up differs from the 'Core' serie with the use of a new controllerchip and the addition of onboard cache memory.
This cache memory is 32MB with the 30 and 60GB versions and 64MB in the 120 and 250 GB SSD's. By adding the writing cache to the actual SSD, it is able to process write-commands far more efficiently, thus increasing transfer speed and lowering the latencies. Drives from the Vertex line-up are compatible with the SATA 300 interface and OCZ claims a reading/writing speed of respectively 200 and 160 MB/s.

The lifetime of these speedy SSD's is estimated to be 1.5 million hours MTBF. OCZ provides two years of warranty with the Vertex SSD's. The line-up is to be released next to the existing Core SSD's in a few weeks with prices of $129, $249, $469 and $869 for respectively the 30, 60, 120 and 250GB version.| Related news |
