ASUS builds cheaper P6T X58 mainboard
Fudzilla reports on a new, cheaper alternative for Core i7 users built by ASUS. The newest addition to their X58 line up is called the P6T X58 and although definitely not a completely stripped down motherboard it has to do with quite a few features less than its more expensive brethern.
The P6T X58 sports 6 DDR3 tripple channel memory slots and three PCI-Express x16 slots, two of these can benefit from the full 16x bandwith, however the last slot will have to do with 4 lanes when all slots are in use. This does not make this board favourite for a tripple GPU setup, but a two card setup should not be a problem. The board further features 8 SATA II ports, 2 conventional PCI slots and a PCI-Express x1 slot, an IDE connector and firewire.

Although the P6T X58 is not top of the range, there are still sufficient possibilities for overclockers, as the board has an eight phase powersupply and power and reset buttons next to the memoryslots. The chipsets and northbridge are cooled by a passive blue heatsink with one heatpipe connecting the northbrigde heatsink and the CPU phased power.
The I/O backpanel sports the usual, 2 PS2 ports, 6 USB ports, eSATA connector, Firewire, Gigabit LAN and 7.1 audio connections. The exact price of the newest ASUS motherboard has not yet been released, but it is expected to be quite a bit less than the current X58 boards.
