Intel has a new chipset planned for the business market. The B43, as it is branded, is a cheaper version of the Q43 chipset. The biggest difference between the two is the maximum amount of supported memory. The Q43 supports up to 16 GB of DDR2-memory, while the B43 only supports 8 GB when used in combination with DDR2. The B43 chipset only supports one DIMM per memory channel, which cuts the maximum amount in half.
Intel's B43 chipset uses the GMA X4500 3D-chip, one that supports DirectX10 and Open GL 1.53. The reference design features one PCI-E 2.0 x16 slot and the ICH10D southbridge. The chipset will be shipped to manufacturers later this month. The first systems based on this chipset can be expected in the run of Q1 2009.
