LaCie launches the Internet Space. The company describes the device as a "userfriendly hard disk with a storage capacity of 500 GB or 1 TB" but the functionality of the device makes us think it's a NAS for multimedia and backups.

The Internet Space is designed by Neil Poulton
LaCie offers a webportal (www.homelacie.com) to Internet Space owners through which they can access their drive via the internet. It is also possible to send an e-mail to friends in order to give them access to certain areas of the drive, such as photoalbums.

The NAS features its own Gigabit LAN-connector, meaning that it doesn't require an additional computer to go online
The Internet Space can stream multimedia files through the home network to an Xbox 360 or Playstation 3 console. This makes it possible to display photos or videos on a television. The disk can also be used as an iTunes music server.
LaCie has also added a USB 2.0 connector to add a second external harddisk. Thanks to the HipServ DesktopMirror-software, a backup of the Internet Space content can be placed on that second hard disk.
The device is available in Europe and has a recommended price of €169 (500 GB) or €229 (1 TB) incl. VAT.
