500GB notebook hard disks by Fujitsu
Fujitsu reports the introduction of two new 500 GB notebook hard disk, the MJA2 BH, and the 256/bit AES/encrypted MJA2 CH. The first will be available in capacities of 250 GB, 320 GB and 500 GB, the encrypted model will also be released in an 80 GB and a 160 GB version.
Both 2.5-inch models have a SATA2 interface, a speed of 5400 RPM and an 8 MB buffer. The average accesstime for reading and writing is respectively 12 ms and 14 ms. The disk has a specified energy consumption of 1.4 watt during operation, which according to the manufacturer, is a reduction of 33% compared to earlier models. These are also the first two halogen-free disks of the company, which means they are more friendly to the environment.
Fujitsu reports that the MJA2 BH disks will become available by the end of December and that the MJA2 CH will be released in the first quarter of 2009. Prices have not yet been mentioned.
