Patriot launched a new series of DDR2 memory modules branded Viper in September. These modules featured special heatspreaders on the memory and relatively low timings. Last week, the company has added another set to the line-up, namely an 8GB DDR2 kit with a clockspeed of 800 MHz. The set contains two 4 GB modules, which means that there's still room for expansion in a standard motherboard with four DIMM slots. The memory requires a voltage of 1.9V and has a latency of 5-5-5-15.

According to Patriot's technical director, more and more people are switching to a 64 bits operating system, thus removing the limitation of 4 GB ram and allowing them to fully experience the profits of 8 GB memory in intensive applications.

The modules are equipped with black heatspreaders and come with a lifetime warranty. The 8GB DDR2 kit is already listed on Newegg and costs $195.
