Thanks to its excellent price/performance ratio, AMD's HD 4850 graphics card has found its way into the mainstream market. This means that there are a lot of potential buyers, making AMD's partners compete with one another to have consumers purchase their cards. New versions are released every other day, i.e with alternative cooling, overclockers or an expanded featureset.

ASUS introduces a 'Republic of Gamers' edition of the HD 4850, featuring a dualslot Matrix cooler which the company earlier used on a 9800GT Matrix edition. The card will be branded EAH4850 MATRIX/HTDI/512M and has 512 MB of GDDR3 memory. The clockspeeds are identical to those of the reference model, meaning it has a core clock of 625 MHz for the R770 GPU and 1986 MHz for the GDDR3 memory.

What makes the card special is the 'exclusive' dual slot Hybrid cooler. This cooler is able to completely disable the fan under low temperatures. The ROG edition of the HD 4850 also features temperature sensors for the GPU, memory, voltage regulators, and ambient temperature. The power consumption of the graphics chip, PCB and memory can also be monitored.

The ASUS HD 4850 graphics card will be released later this month at a still undisclosed price.  Image source: Matbe.
