Originally, the seventh version of the Windows Mobile operating system, called Windows Mobile 7, was planned to be released next year. A few weeks ago, it was announced that the release of this OS would be significantly delayed. After this news, Motorola co-CEO Sanjay Jha spilled that there will be a Windows Mobile 6.5 prior to that release. Steve Ballmer has confirmed that Windows Mobile 6.5 exists and added that it will be launched somewhere mid-2009.

Which new features Windows Mobile 6.5 will bring has not yet been mentioned. It's expected that the user interface will be simplified, for instance by using tabs.
