Power Color will soon launch a GDDR4 version of the Radeon HD 4850. The company is the first to equip the card with GDDR4, all other 4850's use GDDR3 memory chips. PowerColor will put 512MB of this GDDR4 on the card, clocked at 2200 MHz. This is a significant improvement compared to the GDDR3 version, which has a frequency of 1986 MHz. It's to be noted though, the latencies of GDDR4 are a bit higher than those of GDDR3.
The card's RV770 chip has a reference clockspeed of 625 MHz. PowerColor does leave some room for overclocking, equipping the card with an alternative dual-slot cooler. This cooler is to keep the GPU up to 10C cooler than the reference one. When PowerColor's GDDR4 HD4850 will be released, is still unknown.
