HP has announced the Mini Note 1000 serie this week. The company reports that the new netbooks are meant to be able to go online everywhere for entertainment, contrary to the 2133 netbooks that are designed for use in the office.

The regular model has a piano black finish
The new models use Intel's Atom N279 processor, clocked at 1.6 GHz, in combination with up to 2 GB of memory. Apart from a 60 GB hard disk, an 8 or 16 GB SSD is also an option. The netbooks feature Ethernet, two USB ports, WiFi and Bluetooth. 3G-support is expected in December.

The Vivienne Tam Edition
According to HP, the Mini 1000 netbooks weigh around 1.1 kg and are 2.52 cm thick. The keyboard is approximately 9% smaller than that of a regular notebook. A webcam with microphone has been integrated in the 8.9" or 10.2" 1024x600 LCD-screen.
Both the regular version and the Vivienne Tam Edition come with Windows XP Home Edition pre-installed. There's also a Mini 1000 with MIE (Mobile Internet Experience), a by HP developed version of Linux. Additional information can be found on HP's website.
The HP Mini 1000 should be available starting 2009 and bears a recommended price of € 549,-. The Vivienne Tam Edition will cost an extra €50,-.
