TechConnect reports that the first beta version of Service Pack 2 (SP2) for Windows Vista and Windows Server 2009 will be released to a select group of testers next wednesday already. Mike Nash, vice-president of Microsoft's Windows Product Management department, reports that this beta version of SP2 will contain all updates and fixes released after the first service pack, as well as added compatibility for new hardware and the following five features:
- Windows Search 4.0, which should provide more relevant results, faster than its predecessor.
- Bluetooth 2.1 Feature Pack, which adds support for the latest specification of the protocol.
- Integrated (native) Blu-ray disk writing functionality
- Windows Connect Now (WCN), which will simplify the configuration of wireless networks
- Support for UTC date and time notations for the exFAT (FAT64) file system, which will allow data synchronisation between different timezones.
Nash has not yet disclosed any information on an official introduction date for Window's new Service Pack 2.
