Recently we reported on the introduction of AMD's new opteron 2000 and 8000 series of processors. The new models for servers and workstations use the 45nm Shanghai quad core chip. Several of these processors now have a price, which makes it likely that they will be available soon.

The entry model in the 45nm 2000 serie, the Opteron 2376, has a clock frequency of 2.3 GHz, and can be found in our price comparison for just over $400,-. The frequency increases in steps of 100 MHz with the Opteron 2378, 2380 and 2382. The current topmodel is the Opteron 2384, which has a clockspeed of 2.7 GHz.

The cheapest Opteron in the 45nm multi-processor 8000 line-up is the Opteron 8378, clocked at 2.4 GHz. This entry model costs about $1230,-. The topmodel for this serie is the Opteron 8384, which has a pricetag of nearly $2300,-.

All of these Opteron processors are compatible with AMD's socket F. The desktop version of Shanghai, named Deneb, will be released in a few months.
