With the Eee PC, ASUS has found a new market for cheap and simple notebooks. The variety within this market shows from ASUS line-up, as well as that of several competitors. To server the upper segment of the netbook market, ASUS introduces a new model, the S101. By restyling the Eee PC in colors like brown, champagne and graphite, the company thinks to live up to the business market's expectations.
Like the regular Eee PC, the S101 will be equipped with an efficient Atom processor and Intel's 945 chipset, it'll also have 1 GB of DDR2 memory. The screen has a dimension of 10.2", is illuminated by an LED backlight and features a 1280x800 pixel resolution. Also like the standard Eee PC, the S101 is equipped with an SSD drive, in the capcities 16, 32 or 64 GB.
The netbook has a fast 802.11n wireless receiver and a bluetooth 2.0 module. It also has a Gigabit LAN port, VGA connector, 3x USB and an integrated 0.3 megapixel webcam. There's also a 4-in-1 cardreader for flash memory cards. ASUS claims a 5-hour battery life.
The S101 weighs approximately 1 kilo, making it a very mobile solution. It'll come with Windows XP Home or Linux pre-installed. A price has not yet been announced.
