New nVidia chipset in January 2009?
An image has leaked showing nVidia has a new chipset for the upcoming AMD AM3 and current AM2 and AM2+ processor in the planning. The MCP82-chipset has an IGP which offers support to DirectX 10, PureVideo HD, Hybrid SLI and CUDA. The chipset also supports HDMI, DVI and D-sub. It's rumored that DisplayPort will be added to the list.
The MCP82 will be available in two versions, the MCP82-S1 and MCP82-S2. The first mentioned will feature three PCI-Express x8 slots and three PCI-Express x1 slots. The MCP82-S2 will have two PCI-Express x1 slots or one PCI-Express x16 slot and two PCI-Express x8 slots.
Expreview reports that the chipset is equal to the MCP72 footprint-wise. This makes it easier for motherboard manufacturers to adjust their product line to the new chipset. It's expected the the new MCP82 chipset will be placed on motherboards with the same lay-out as the MCP72 ones.
It's likely that the chipset will become available in January of 2009.
