As the launch of the Core i7 generation is nearing, Intel is clearing the field in the product line-up. Intel grants the EOL status to 13 processors by the end of this year. The processors, under which eight dualcore and five quadcores, do not just include 65nm models, some of the 45nm 'Penryn' CPU's will also be discontinued already.

Production will stop on the 65nm E6850, E6750, E6650 and E4600 dualcores. In the 45nm line-up, the affected models are the E8300, E8200 and E8190. In the second quarter of 2009, the E4700 will also be removed from the line-up.

The first Yorkfield quadcore will go EOL in early 2009

Of the quadcores, the immensely popular Q6600 and it's big brother the Q6700 will be phased out in the first quarter of 2009. A remarkable thing is that Intel will already cancel the production on it's latest 45nm quadcores, considering the fact that their availability wasn't optimal until March this year. The first 45nm Yorkfield to clear the field is the Q9450, which will be followed by the Q9750 and QX9770 in the second quarter of 2009. These holes will be filled with respectively the entry-model Core i7 920 and the 3.2 GHz Core i7 965.
