We all remember Intel's Skulltrail platform, a workstation motherboard that houses two Socket 771 Core 2 Extreme processors, as well as offer support for both ATI Crossfire and nVidia SLI. As of yet Skulltrail is the fastest platform, though Core i7 may change that. Intel is working on a Skulltrail successor, based on the new Xeon processors with the Nehalem EX-architecture.
Intel's Smackover motherboard to be followed up?
It's still unclear what specifications the new Skulltrail platform will feature. A likely thing is that each socket will have its own triple channel memory, seeing as the memorycontroller will be integrated in the processor. The two quad core processor will support Hyper Threading, thus the board will be able to process 16 threads simultaneously. It wouldn't surprise us if ATI's Crossfire and nVidia's SLI support are also back on the new Skulltrail.
Intel has not yet released any launch information.
