Gainward has launched a new graphics card in the Radeon HD 4800 serie, the Radeon HD 4870 Golden Sample 1 GB. The name leaves little room for interpretation: it's an overclocked ATI RV770 XT with 1 GB of GDDR5 memory. The new card features a more silent cooler compared to the 512 MB Golden Sample edition. The 1 GB model also has a DisplayPort connector.

Apart from DisplayPort, Gainward's Radeon HD4870 Golden Sample 1 GB features HDMI, D-sub and DVI. The card has a Dual BIOS, which makes it able to function in both a Normal Mode as well as a Turbo Mode. In Normal Mode, the 3D-chip and memory run at their standard frequencies, whereas in Turbo Mode they are overclocked to respectively 775 MHz and 1000 MHz. A button on the rear of the card makes switching between the modes possible. The two 80 mm fans of the graphics card are temperature controlled, but can also be manually adjusted to a specific RPM count.
