Dell will soon release a new 22" monitor with a 16:9 aspect ratio and a resolution of 1920x1080 pixels. This makes the screen not only have more workspace than a conventional 1680x1050 22" monitor, but also provides the possibility to watch Blu-ray movies in their maximum resolution without black bars below and above the image. A month ago, BenQ already introduced a 21.5", as well as a 24" monitor with the 16:9 aspect ratio. It seems like the beginning of a new trend.
There's isn't much information on Dell's S2209W yet, as it'll be called. The monitor will have a pianoblack glossy finish on the front, with a matte one on the rear. The distinctive resolution makes this monitor wider and shorter than a conventional 16:10 screen. No prices are available yet, but it's likely to be positioned between the regular 22" monitors and the 24" models.
