Recently, a description of the entry-level P5QPL-VM motherboard has been added to ASUS' website. The motherboard is based on Intel's G41 chipset and is part of ASUS' P5Q series, which also houses some P45-based boards. The used southbridge is the relatively old Intel ICH7 chip, which lacks RAID-functionality. A remarkable thing is the presence of DisplayPort, next to the conventional DVI and DSUB connectors. The product has the ExpressGate software pre-installed, which is the brandname of ASUS' Splashtop Linux distribution.
The G41 chipset supports an FSB of up to 1333 Mhz and makes the P5QPL-VM compatible with Intel's current generation of 45nm LGA775 processors. It features one PCI-Express x16 slot, a PCI-Express x1 slot, two PCI slots, an integrated Intel GMA 4500 graphics chip, a PATA connector, four SATA II ports, 7.1 audio and eight USB-connectors. A detailed overview of the specifications can be found on the product page
When ASUS' new entry model will become available, and at which cost is still unknown.
