For those who think mini-ITX is as small as it gets, take a look at the Fit-PC. This brand has built a computer in an extremely tiny case. The system has dimensions of 10 x 11 x 3 centimeter and weighs a mere 380 grams. It has all functionalities required to run an operating system like Windows XP or Linux.
The device is powered by a 500MHz AMD Geode processor, linked to a CS5536 chipset with integrated video capability. It has 512MB of RAM and the videochip supports resolutions of up to 1920x1440 pixels, which is enough to power a 24 inch TFT screen and even Full-HD televisions.
The Fit-PC is smaller than most routers
The case has room for a 2.5" hard disk and the option to add another one via USB. This makes the computer suitable as webserver or mediaplayer. The system can handle wired networks as well as 802.11b/g wireless ones. The price starts at $220 for a model with 256MB ram, without Wifi and hard disk. A more detailed price overview can be found below:
- fit-PC Slim Barebones (256MB, no WiFi, no HDD) - $220
- fit-PC Slim Diskless (512MB, WiFi, no HDD) - $245
- fit-PC Slim Linux (512MB, WiFi, 60GB hard disk with Ubuntu and Gentoo pre-installed) - $295
- fit-PC Slim XP (512MB, WiFi, 60GB hard disk with Windows XP Home SP3 pre-installed) - $335
The device consumes between 4 and 6 Watts of power. An external 12V power supply is bundled.
