HP officially reported its HP Pavilion HDX9480 as a notebook. The massive 20.1" 1920x1200 screen, two 320GB 5400rpm SATA-disks and numeric keypad however, make the device very similar to a conventional desktop computer.
According to HP, the HDX9480 is intended for consumers that cannot decide between a notebook and a desktop PC, for example people that want to game with their computer, but also watch movies. To serve those purposes, the HDX9480 features an nVidia GeForce 8800M GTS graphics card with 512 MB of dedicated memory and the possibility to add a share of the 4 GB RAM as well. The used processor is an Intel Core 2 Duo T8300, clocked at 2.4GHz.
The notebook's optical drive reads Blu-ray discs and writes DVD's (dual-layer too), as well as CD's. To communicate, the notebook uses WiFi, Bluetooth and LAN. It has an HDMI connector, D-Sub, S-Video out, eSATA, IR, four USB 2.0 ports and a FireWire connector, as well as an integrated 5-in-1 cardreader.
Also present in the HDX9480 is a DVB-T TV-Tuner with IR-remote control. The Altec Lansing speakers have an integrated subwoofer. Lastly, the laptop also has a webcam and fingerprintscanner. It weighs just over 7 kg.
HP's Pavilion HDX9480 will become available in October at a price of € 1599 incl. VAT. This includes a pre-installed version of Windows Vista Home Premium.
