Team Group enters the SSD market by launching two new models, the Xtreem G1 and the Xtreem R-Type. Both 2,5" SSD's are equipped with a SATA 3 Gbps controller. The two versions will be available in 60, 120 and 250 GB editions, using the cheaper MLC flash memory.
The Xtreem G1 is the fastest of the two, reaching speeds of up to 260 MB/s when reading and 180 MB/s while writing data. To maintain the performance during intensive reading- and writing tasks, the Xtreeem G1 SSD's use 64 MB of buffer memory. It's still unclear which controller will be fitted into the SSD, but given the additional DRAM cache, it's likely to be one of Samsung's or Indilinx' chips.
The Xtreem R-Type takes things differently. This model is an internal RAID 0 configuration of two SSD's. Team states that the drive is capable of attaining reading speeds ranging from 220 to 240 MB/s, combined with writing speeds between 150 and 170 MB/s. The exact contents of this SSD are still unknown, meaning we'll have to wait to see how it performs.
To increase the lifespan of the memory chips, the Xtreem SSD's are equipped with wear-leveling technology and ECC. Team claims that these solid state drives feature an MTBF of about 2,5 million hours. The manufacturer bundles a two-year warranty plan with the R-Type and G1 SSD's. Prices have not yet been mentioned.
